Meeting Minutes

20th May 2006

Attended By

Rajiv, Pankaj K, Pawan, Deepan

  • We started off with a round of Introductions. Deepan kicked it off, then before we could go on to Pawan we started discussing the Dual Licensing scheme followed by Open Source companies.
  • Rajiv then gave an overview of the business model and how Dual Licensing scheme can be applied to our project as well. He gave the breakup of investment required and how we plan to recover the investment through support contracts.
  • Pankaj then raised the issue of hardware and the possibility of using hardware other than Blackfin.
  • Pankaj pointed out that we need a complete BoM (Bill of Materials) analysis so that we have an accurate idea of the cost of our Reference Desgin. As per Rajiv's estimate it comes to around $300 right now for one reference board. Mass manufacture using that board can lead to cost reduction of by a factor of 10. We need numbers to back that up.
  • Rajiv gave an overview of the Prototype and the Alpha plan.
  • Pawan raised the concern of hardware problems. Hardware problems are hard to fix and we will need a dedicated team for it. Rajiv pointed out that we need that only after the prototype phase and by that time (hopefully) we will have the funding required to recruit such a team.
  • Pawan also pointed out that the full fledged stack development may not be possible during the timeframe for the Alpha product drawing upon his experiences. Rajiv pointed out that we need to think and work like a startup rather than follow the normal development practices generally followed. We also need to get as much as possible community involvement so that we can use them effectively.
  • Rajiv gave the current status and the progress made. Not much progress made but we are still on track for the 31st August deadline.
  • The team size and capabilities were also discussed. Pawan pointed out that there are lots of people who can help from the outside and we should use them for our project. They can be very useful if we run into roadblocks.
  • We disucssed the ownership of work items as of now. Rajiv is looking into the OS part and Pankaj T is doing the baseband. Pankaj K pointed out that it will be difficult for Rajiv to keep up with the work as well as handle all the meetings with customers and investors. The current working view is that we are already suffering on that account and we should try and get another person working with Rajiv on the OS part. We are looking for volunteers.
  • Pankaj pointed out that we need lots of discussions so as to refine the business model.
  • We also need to distribute the module ownership.
  • Rajiv gave the details of the customer meetings and the product solution we are offering to them. The next meeting Pankaj and Pawan would accompany Rajiv. The meeting is supposed to happen sometime during this week. Rajiv to follow up.
  • Pankaj pointed out that we can deviate somewhat from our own plans in order to get the customer. Currently we are on the right track since the product offering is based upon our Ref. Design.
  • Rajiv and Pankaj will meet up this Tuesday and most probably we will meet our prospective Angel Investor as well.
  • We also discussed our gut feelings about this project. The concensus was that we need to focus on the execution and the prototype.
  • Pawan and Rajiv decided to meet up as frequently as possible. Pawan's office is near to Rajiv's home so it is easy for him to drop in, or vice versa.
  • We decided upon the action items and assigned them. Check the Action Items Register .
  • We decided to meet up next Saturday, 27th May, at Koshys Chill Out, M. G. Road.
  • We also decided to use this Wiki and the mailing list to disucss further during this week.
